Online Webinar for CafeTO Questions

An online webinar for local operators is planned for Tuesday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m.

The webinar will review the program requirements and help answer any questions.
We will send out registration information for this at a later date.

Some of these improvements for this year are:

  •  A clearer registration process, that starts sooner, as well as an updated guidebook that includes enhancements to accessibility requirements.
  • A more efficient CaféTO installation process, to begin helping approved businesses as soon as possible once winter is over and public health regulations permit outdoor dining.
  • Commitment to ensure more restaurants in Scarborough, Etobicoke and North York are ready to take advantage of opportunities for quick expansion of outdoor dining.
  • Development of comprehensive and safe traffic management plans that will help ensure the curb lane cafés are as safe as possible for people dining, employees and people using the road.
  • Allowing some owners/operators to build temporary platforms for curb lane café areas, where applicable.
  • Ensuring there is accessible furniture for public parklet areas.

Please note the KMBIA is always trying to support our neighbourhood during this time withshow all

Please note the KMBIA is always trying to support our neighbourhood during this time with the following positions on supporting small businesses.

1) Covid has highlighted some of the weaknesses of our political and economic structures. Small business have to function in a system that’s stacked against them. We are trying our best to highlight those issues.

2) We know there is little to no protection for commercial lease holders. That’s a major factor in many of the closures during covid shut downs and prior to COVID.

3) Many of the businesses that have closed are also cultural institutions in their own right and losing them will have a disastrous effect on our neighbourhood. We are trying to advocate for these important institutions

4) We know some new businesses in the neighbourhood do not apply for the CERS program STILL, we will be actively pushing for reassessment on this process as well.
