Please note the KMBIA is always trying to support our neighbourhood during this time with the following positions on supporting small businesses.

  1. Covid has highlighted some of the weaknesses of our political and economic structures. Small business have to function in a system that’s stacked against them. We are trying our best to highlight those issues.
  2. We know there is little to no protection for commercial lease holders. That’s a major factor in many of the closures during covid shut downs and prior to COVID.
  3. Many of the businesses that have closed are also cultural institutions in their own right and losing them will have a disastrous effect on our neighbourhood. We are trying to advocate for these important institutions
  4. We know some new businesses in the neighbourhood do not apply for the CERS program STILL, we will be actively pushing for reassessment on this process as well.
