This summer (2020), the Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto partnered with the Kensington Market Business Improvement Area on the Daniels Digital Design Camp.

The students learned how to design a solution to real-world problems provided by the KMBIA. Each week, a different set of students went about trying to create innovative solutions to four different projects: the Baldwin Street Planters, Sonya’s Park, the no-turn at Augusta and Nassau, and the Sunday Pedestrian Gates.

Every week, representatives from the KMBIA and the Kensington Market neighbourhood attended two design critiques to provide the participants with valuable feedback that the students then incorporated into their designs. The collaboration provided a rich learning experience for all participants.

The Daniels Faculty and KMBIA look to collaborate next summer (2021) on real physical builds to accompany the digital designs if regulations allow.
